Somalia’s northeastern semi-autonomous area of Puntland has began increase its Defence forces close to Tukaraq town in Sool area, a day after town was captured by Somali-land troops, Local Media reports.

Pressure has been rising within the disputed area since Monday as each side are dispatching “combat-ready” troops to the areas close to Tukaraq, about 86Km west of Garowe, Puntland state capital.

Nugal Governor Omar Abdullahi Faraweyne has announced that Puntland has suspended all public transport autos from or going to Somali-land on account of the renewed tension and present troop build-up.

Faraweyne said the principle getway between Las Anod and Garowe will stay closed till additional notice and is simply permitted for Puntland Protection Force [PDF] units and authorities motorcades.

The Puntland authorities blamed the self-declared republic of Somaliland for launching an offensive on its territory to disrupt the historic visit of Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo to the area.
