With our correspondent in the DRC, Denise Maheho
Shots, theft, murder, rape have become the daily lot of the inhabitants of Lubumbashi. Mgr. Denis Moto, vicar general of the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi wonders why the problem persists: ” But what’s wrong ? We don’t understand. In view of all the resources available from the provincial government, we should expect a lull. On the contrary, every day that passes, we hear bandits entering the homes of people, who kill, who rape … We have the impression that the authorities are overwhelmed and do not know what to do. “
Provincial interior minister surprised
Fulbert Milundu, provincial minister of the interior in Haut-Katanga, reacts and ensures that they are not overwhelmed by the situation: ” Power can never be exceeded. But this is a special situation, it surprises us all. “A situation which he describes as particular not by the gravity of the facts and by their frequency. He went on to say that it is necessary to allow time for the provincial services to react: ” It may take a little time to be able to assemble the means to deal with this situation “
According to several testimonies, elements of the police are among the bandits. Elected officials in Lubumbashi, also shocked by the continuing insecurity, demand explanations from officials in the provincial security services.
