Auto-Rickshaw union chief shot lifeless in Mogadishu

The leader of the auto-rickshaw union in the capital Mogadishu was on Thursday night shot dead by a government soldier near Banadir junction in Mogadishu’s Hodan district following a tiresome altercation.

According to reports, the deceased whose name is identified as Hussein Jelle Wehliye was gunned down by the officer after a quarrel sparked between them, suddenly the soldier pulled his AK47 and shot at the driver killing him instantly.

Following the killing of the auto-rickshaw, hundreds of demonstrators descended on Mogadishu streets to protest the shooting death of the auto rickshaw (bajaj) driver.

The youths said, security officers are killing them indiscriminately. “We are victims and we are massacred by government soldiers. We want to inform government and local municipality to our problem,” Security officials rarely face justice when they kill unarmed civilians.

The incident comes barely days after an unidentified armed man shot dead a bajaj driver at a security checkpoint at Sei Piano neighborhood in Mogadishu’s Hodan district.

It is the latest in a series of attacks to Bajaj drivers and there is no word yet regarding the prosecution of the officers behind the killings.
