Tennis: Parole for ex-player Bob Hewitt
Former Australian-South African tennis champion Bob Hewitt, sentenced to six years in prison for rape, is expected to be released on parole on April 24, South African Prison Services announced Tuesday.
Bob Hewitt was convicted in May 2015 of two rapes and a sexual abuse of teenage girls he trained in the 1980s and 1990s.
In a press release, prison services spokesman Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed “Robert Anthony John Hewitt (…) password from April 24, 2020”.

Imprisoned in 2016, he served the lowest sentence for being eligible for delays, Nxumalo added.
Winner of 15 Grand Slam titles in men’s doubles and mixed in the 1960s and 1970s, he received a plaque in 1992 in Hall of Fame tennis in Newport (USA). It has since been withdrawn because of the scandal.
