Identify victims of human trafficking to better protect them and better support them when they return to a normal life. This is the challenge that Chad launched on September 14, through a referral mechanism in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). An insufficient mechanism for the network of associations in Mandoul, bringing together ten associations from this province.

as reported from Ndjamena, Aurélie Bazzara-Kibangula

These associations condemn a phenomenon that has been growing for more than ten years. Armed conflicts between different societies, poverty, school dropouts are all factors that promote human trafficking. They call on the authorities to combat human trafficking effectively.

Smugglers promise young people in the south of the country that they will earn a fortune on gold breading. But on arrival, hell awaits them in the middle of the Chadian desert. The spokesman for the association network in Mandoul, Delaville Djimiabaye, is sounding the alarm.

“Under the misleading pretext of giving them a well-paid job,” he says, “their torturers lead them to the north and expose them to degrading treatment. Social networks were required to publish the horrific images of young people being tortured, kidnapped and dragged behind vehicles for the world to realize the extent of the phenomenon. We are very surprised by the silence from the authorities. ”

Associations estimate that more than a thousand young people were kidnapped, just for the province of Mandoul this year.

For his part, Carlos Rotta Dingamadji, head of human rights at the Ministry of Justice, acknowledges that this phenomenon is indeed growing, but that it has been under surveillance since 2010. “The defense and security forces have also been alerted. governors, prefects and sub-prefects. There is a whole chain of actors involved in the fight against human trafficking. ”

It remains to coordinate all its efforts for increased efficiency. A national committee on trafficking in human beings should be set up at the end of the year.
