Three days after unilaterally ordering a ceasefire, President Touadéra participated in the Security Council on the Central African Republic via a video link with New York. And the tone of his speech was in contrast to the report of the Secretary – General’s representative which formed the basis of the meeting.
as reported from New York, Carrie Nooten
On the Security Council’s home bike, President Touadéra did not thank the countries that provided “bilateral forces” to Bangui. For him, these forces would have made it possible “to optimize the protection of the civilian population”, and even if he did not quote the private company Wagner, the whole council understood that it was partly about her.
This triggered a call. The French Deputy Ambassador, or even the Estonian Ambassador, for example, who did not hesitate to classify this presence as “destabilizing”. The Russian ambassador then rejected this criticism outright, condemning the Council’s “arrogant tone”. For her, the “Russian instructors” have improved Faca’s professionalism.
In any case, while Council members hope that the ceasefire creates good conditions for a national dialogue, a large majority is still concerned about the conclusions of the Secretary – General’s report. Without even noting the violation of the ceasefire Already on Saturday, it is clear to them that the peace process has not advanced enough.
UN Representative to the Central African Republic Mankeur Ndiaye warned him of “all delays or not held” elections scheduled for 2022.
