China sends new fleet on escort mission to Gulf of Aden
The thirty ninth Navy Fleet of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China left town of Qingdao, in japanese China’s Shandong Province, on Sunday to conduct an escort mission within the Gulf of Aden. and the waters off Somalia.
The fleet is made up of the guided missile destroyer Urumqi, the guided missile frigate Yantai and the availability ship Taihu, with dozens of particular operations troopers and two helicopters on board.
In preparation for the mission, the fleet performed coaching on the usage of weapons, counterterrorism and piracy, as properly as refueling at sea.
The PLA Navy started conducting escort missions within the Gulf of Aden and waters off Somalia in December 2008.
