Tunisia Ahmed Hafnaoui in gold in 400 m swimming

Tunisia’s Ahmed Hafnaoui won the gold medal in the 400 m freestyle at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, the first African title at the Olympics, on July 25. The 18-year-old swimmer created a huge surprise and already gave Tunisia a second charm.

Tunisia will definitely strike a blow at the start of the Tokyo 202 Olympics. After Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi’s silver medal in taekwondo, Ahmed Hanaoui, 18, created a huge surprise while swimming on July 25. Tunisia won gold in the 400 m freestyle. A distance that is traditionally dominated by Americans, Australians or Chinese.

On Sunday, however, Ahmed Hanaoui was ahead by 3 minutes, 43 seconds and 36 hundredths, Australian Jack McLoughlin (3 min. 43 sec. 52) and American Kieran Smith (3 min. 43 sec. 94).

Like Osama Mellouli?

So far, Ahmed Hafnaoui had particularly excelled at the 2018 African Championships in Algiers. Here he is already driven into the legend of Tunisian sport and African swimming, together with his compatriots Oussama Mellouli (two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Olympic Games).

Please note that the revelation of this start of the swimming competition should also be adapted to 800 meters.
