Tunisian President appoints new government 11 weeks after taking power

Tunisian President Kais Saied has appointed a new government by decree, 11 weeks after sacking the last one, the presidency announced on Monday.

“The President of the Republic has issued a decree appointing the head of government and its members,” the presidency said in a statement shortly before the state television broadcast of an oath-taking ceremony.

Saied sacked the prime minister, suspended parliament and granted himself judicial powers in a July 25 takeover that opponents called a coup.
