It has been five months since September 8 that our colleague, the French journalist Olivier Dubois, was held hostage in Mali. On this painful day, which was regularly the eighth of each month, RFI offered his family to send messages for Olivier Duboi’s attention.
In a video released a month after his disappearance, while reporting in Gao, northern Mali, he declared that he was in the hands of the support group for Islam and Muslims, Jnim, led by Iyad Ag. Ghaly and linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
Olivier Dubois is currently the only French hostage in the world. He was kidnapped by a jihadist group on April 8, while reporting in Gao, in northern Mali. He himself had announced his kidnapping in a video that was published on May 5 on social networks. Freelance journalist Olivier Dubois, 46, has lived in Mali since 2015 and regularly writes for Liberation, Le Point and Jeune Afrique newspapers.
On September 8, four relatives send the journalist a message about support via our antenna.
Olivier … Five months of lawlessness, freedom, movement. a difficult situation for you, where we are all involved. And just like you, we face it, it is our duty to everyone: mother, sister, children, friends, states, to do what is necessary to get you out of this nightmare as quickly as possible. But let’s be honest, without the help of the French and Malian states, we can do nothing. We hope you will hear from us, that the French and Malian states are taking action, taking care of your situation as soon as possible and taking you back to your family, to all those who are important to you and who love you. I kiss you, my son.

[…] We think a lot about you and expect your return as soon as possible
