French soldier killed in Mali in clash with armed terrorist

A French soldier was killed Friday morning in a clash with an armed militant group in Mali, the French presidential administration said in a statement.

France has an anti-terrorism force in Mali which is trying to contain militant Islamist groups.

More than 50 French soldiers have died in the region since Paris intervened in 2013 to push back al-Qaeda-linked militants who had taken towns and villages in northern Mali a year earlier.

The Ministry of the Armed Forces sends its deepest condolences to the family, relatives and brothers in arms of Master Corporal Maxime Blasco, who died for France while fighting terrorists as part of Operation Barkhane, on September 24 in Mali. . #MPLF
