A delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) concluded a four-day visit to Mali on Friday. as reported from Bamako, Serge Daniel

The Malian presidential and legislative elections are due to take place, according to the official calendar, at the end of February 2022. The delegation from the African Union’s PSC mission claims to have received assurances about this from the Malian authorities.

The head of the delegation, Adékunlé Adéléké, the current president of the AU Peace and Security Council, also confirms that the Malian authorities he met will soon announce the end of the restrictions imposed on the former president and prime minister who have been overthrown and in housing since late May.

The second highlight of the visit is the meeting with the leaders of the local political parties. The latter, like Hamidou Doumbia, from the Yéléma-Change party, sent several messages for a peaceful transition and free and open elections. May Mali is still suspended from the AU due to the coup at the end of May and it is hoped in Bamako that this repeal will soon be repealed.

Once again, AU’s envoys will report on this trip.
