AMISOM presents office supplies and equipment to Somalia’s Ministry of Youth and Sport

Mogadishu, Somalia – The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has presented a range of office supplies and equipment to Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The items, which included laptops, desktops, conference screens, a projector, UPS systems and office furniture, were handed over by the head of AMISOM, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, to Somalia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Hamza Said Hamza, in Mogadishu, Somalia.

“AMISOM believes that the items we hand over to you will go a long way in supporting your work on youth – related activities and sports. When appropriate programs and activities are rolled out to young people, Somalia’s people will be safe and you can count on our support. peace in Somalia, said Ambassador Madeira.

He added that in Somalia, young people represent more than 50% of the population and therefore they must support efforts that keep them engaged and live meaningfully. “

Somalia’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Hamza Said Hamza, noted that the equipment will improve the delivery of services and the promotion of sports in Somalia, noting that the donation is timely.

“I am pleased to have these office furniture donated by AMISOM, which will improve our work. They have come at the right time, when we will move to our new offices,” the minister said.

The Minister added, “This strengthens the relationship between the Ministry and AMISOM. This is not the first handover. AMISOM has previously made other presentations that have been helpful.”

The head of the AMISOM Civil Affairs Unit, Dr. Opiyo Ododa, said the aid was aimed at strengthening the development of sports activities and recreation in Somalia.

“All of this will improve the capacity of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Somali Federal Government to deliver on its mandate, especially to young people,” said Dr. Ododa.

“We believe that engaging young people and providing them with appropriate programs and capacities will help them stabilize and have a future in Somalia. That is why we at AMISOM focus on young people and respond to their needs,” he added. Ododa.
