Delegates arrive in Garowe in response to Deni’s call for peace in Bossaso

AXADLE, Northeastern State – On Saturday, various delegates from the country and abroad arrived in Garowe, the capital of Northeastern State, after President Deni called for peace talks in the Bossaso conflict.

Former presidents, prime ministers, prominent politicians, elders and other officials are on a mission to mediate the stalemate around PSF leadership that has led to deadly three-day clashes in the port city that left 20 people dead.

Former President Abdirahman Farole Abdiweli Gaas along with former Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharamarke and other politicians landed at Garowe airport from Kenya on Saturday.

Northeastern State President Said Abdullahi Deni had a lunch meeting with delegations at the Presidential Palace in Garowe, the capital of Northeastern State state in Somalia, and discussed ways to resolve the Bossaso war.

The arrival of officials came after Deni said last night he was ready for any solution through dialogue after growing calls to end hostilities in the commercial city that have displaced scores.

A multi-party delegation is expected to travel to Bossaso to meet with PSF officials, including ousted director Mohamud Osman Diano, who was sacked last month in the coming days or hours.

Bossaso reports say some families who had previously been displaced by the conflict returned to their homes today after facing hardships, including lack of shelter, water and food outside.

The United States, which supports the PSF and the federal government, called for an immediate ceasefire and a return to dialogue to find a negotiated and peaceful solution in Bossaso, the regional capital of Bari.
