Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed resumes office amid war
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed returned to his office weeks after joining the Ethiopian National Defense Forces [ENDF] in the ongoing war against the Tigray Defense Forces [TDF] in northern Ethiopia.
According to state broadcaster Fana, his decision to resume his duties comes days after the operation against TDF was “successful” after the capture of several towns in Afar and Amhara region.
In a statement, the prime minister said the struggle will continue until the enemy is dilapidated, abandons its path of belligerence and hatred and moves to a peaceful path.
“We must push the dispersed enemy to surrender. More than ever, we need to protect our environment with care. Research and monitoring will be stepped up.
“Ethiopia is protected by its gallant children. Ethiopia could be tested. But it was impossible to defeat Ethiopia. Ethiopia will not be defeated today and neither will it be tomorrow. The name Ethiopia is always associated with victory “
The Prime Minister further underlined the need to rebuild what is damaged by the enemy, rehabilitate displaced people and accelerate good governance activities more than ever before.
Thousands of people have been killed in the country as a result of the war between the two sides who once cooperated well. Stakeholders called for a ceasefire in the war, which does not appear to materialize due to difficult positions on both sides.
