Somalia: UN closes passenger terminal at Aden Adde International Airport

Mogadishu – Somalia – At the request of the Somali Government, the UN in Somalia has closed its passenger facility (known as MOVCON) at Aden Adde International Airport, with effect from 24 December 2021.

The United Nations operates in Somalia with full respect for Somali law under the terms of a treaty status agreement and other relevant bilateral agreements signed by UN bodies, funds and programs, as well as the UN Charter and the Convention on Privileges and Immunities. of the United Nations.

We take seriously any concerns that the Federal Government may raise regarding UN operations at any time and regret that this order to close was issued abruptly and with minimal prior advice.

We further regret that the closure was apparently prompted by accusations that have not yet been presented to the UN in detail to enable an investigation. Further discussions on this issue are planned with federal government officials in the coming days.

The United Nations remains committed to its partnership with Somalia and to continuing to help its people despite these disruptions.
