Aguero offers update after heart attack

Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero has assured fans that he is in good health after being diagnosed with heart disease.

The club confirmed on Monday that Aguero is set for three months of consideration in the matter, which left him breathless and forced him off the pitch during the first half of the last 1-1 draw against Alaves.

The sight of him getting help from the pitch was nervous to say the least, but Aguero took to Twitter to make sure fans knew he was fine.

“I am feeling well and in a good mood to face the recovery process,” he wrote. “I want to thank you all for so many messages of support and love that make my heart stronger today.”

From a football perspective, Aguero’s absence can be tricky for Barcelona to navigate as they are already without Martin Braithwaite, who remains sidelined with a nasty knee injury.

Sergio Aguero was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia

Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero has been diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, after leaving the playing field with breathing problems on Saturday night.

Braithwaite was originally signed in February 2020, outside the La Liga transfer window, after it was decided that Barcelona could make an emergency signing to cope with the six-month absence of Ousmane Dembele, but the Catalan giants will not be allowed to make a similar signing on this time.

La Liga has changed its rules for emergency recruiting these days. While clubs were once allowed to splash out on a new player to replace one who would miss at least five months, the league has now chosen to completely eliminate the rule of emergency signing when it comes to injuries.

It is for that reason that Barcelona have not been able to make a signing to replace Braithwaite and they can not do so to cope with Aguero’s absence either. If Barcelona want a new striker, they have to dip in the free agent pool.

At this time of season, the selection of free agents is not very plentiful, with the likes of Andy Carroll, Sebastian Giovinco and Facundo Ferreyra among the biggest names still available.
