Aguero to miss three months after undergoing heart test

Barcelona have confirmed that striker Sergio Aguero will miss at least three months of football with heart problems after undergoing tests.

The Argentine national team player was taken off before half-time in Saturday’s draw against Alaves, after receiving treatment for several minutes after suffering from chest pain.

He left Camp Nou by ambulance and underwent heart tests in hospital. He was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia – an irregular heartbeat – but Barça have now confirmed that their summer signing will be under observation and will not play for the rest of the year.

Their statement reads: “First-team player Sergio Aguero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Joseph Brugada. He is not available for selection and over the next three months, the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated to determine his recovery process.”

Aguero has had a miserable time since leaving Manchester City when his contract expired and he moved to Camp Nou.

He had hoped to play with his childhood friend Lionel Messi, but the club’s difficult financial situation forced the Barça legend to leave before they could take the pitch together at club level.

Aguero was then ruled out for ten weeks with a strained tendon in his right calf and made his official debut for La Blaugrana only when he came on as a replacement for Valencia in mid-October.

The former City striker continued to make sub-appearances and scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 Clasico loss to Real Madrid before embarking on the 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano.

His old club have sent their congratulations to the 33-year-old, while Raheem Sterling tweeted: “Be strong my brother, we are all with you. Get well soon.”
