Antonio Conte uncertain about Hugo Llori’s future

Antonio Conte could not provide an update in the contract negotiations with Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris but claimed that the Frenchman will never be a problem for the club.

The Spurs goalkeeper has been back to his best this season and has made a number of eye-catching saves in the recent Carabao Cup victory over West Ham, but he is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Lloris has been in north London since 2012 and has kept loaner Pierluigi Gollini on the bench for most of the season, although there is some uncertainty about his long-term future.

Asked if he was worried about the contract’s stalemate, Conte said: “Hugo is our captain, he is a player who played for Tottenham for many years and we are all happy to have him in our team, in the squad and in the locker room.

“Of course he is a point of reference for the other players and Hugo knows very well what I think of him and what the club thinks of him.

“Now we’ll see but I think Hugo will never be a problem for Tottenham.”

Lloris turns 35 on the second day, when Tottenham meet Crystal Palace who want to close the gap between themselves and the top four.

Spurs are currently six points behind Arsenal in fourth place with three games left and have yet to lose a Premier League game under new manager Conte.

While the Covid-19 outbursts meant that matches against Rennes, Brighton and Leicester could not be played, Spurs have been in good shape recently, a 2-2 draw against Liverpool before beating West Ham to set up a semi-final in the Carabao Cup with Chelsea.
