Antonio Rudiger has insisted that he is completely focused on Chelsea in the midst of continued speculation about his future at the club.
Rudiger’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the two parties do not appear to be close to reaching an agreement to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
As 90min reported in September, the 28-year-old wants to become one of the Blues’ highest paid players and even though manager Thomas Tuchel is desperate for him to stay, the talks are progressing slowly.
Rudiger is currently on international duty with Germany and when asked about the future of his club career, he was silent.
“At the moment I’m just concentrating on what’s happening right now. I owe it to the club, the coach and the team,” he told German channel Welt am Sonntag.
He added, on the question of a possible return to the Bundesliga: “I am currently only focused on Chelsea. We will see what happens.”
Rudiger has been an almost always present in Chelsea’s back three ever since his compatriot, Tuchel, joined the club halfway through last season. Apart from a few minor injuries, he has continued to start this campaign regularly.
But without a new deal on the horizon, a move to neither Bayern Munich nor Paris Saint-Germain looks increasingly likely.
He’s not the only Blues midfielder with an uncertain future either. Both Thiago Silva and Andreas Christensen are also out of contract during the summer with the trio free to negotiate with other clubs from January onwards.
Should Chelsea lose one or more of the defenders, they are considering a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torres. The Spaniard was chased by the Blues as well as Manchester United – before they recruited Raphael Varane – during the summer.
