Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Everton defender Lucas Digne.
Digne has been the subject of much interest this month after coming into conflict with Toffee’s manager Rafa Benitez. Newcastle and Chelsea had been among his admirers but in the end Villa have won the race for his signature.
As reported by 90min, West Midlanders had an offer of 25 million pounds accepted by Everton on Wednesday and things have gone fast in the end since then.
“When Lucas became available, we took the opportunity to bring him to the club. Recruiting a player of his lineage and quality in the January window is a fantastic addition to our team and his arrival makes me and everyone associated with Aston Villa enthusiastic.” Steven Gerrard told AVFC.co.uk.
Digne will be Villa’s second signing of the transfer window after they previously secured Philippe Coutinho’s tent catch.

In total, he made 127 appearances for Toffees and seemed to enjoy his time at Merseyside. On Wednesday night, he claimed that Benitez on his own had “ruined a beautiful love affair”.
“Just a year ago, I signed a new contract with the ambition to stay in this club for a long time, to give everything for my club, for the development and the project I believed in – and for the passionate fans,” he wrote on Instagram.
“My dream was to help the club back to where it belongs. Wearing the captain’s tie in certain matches always made me proud.
“Everything has to end. I just did not expect it to end this way. What has happened and some things that have been said about me in the last month have made me very sad. But I will not go in. in a war against words with someone.
“Sometimes it only takes one person from the outside to ruin a beautiful love affair.”
