Ayoze Perez reveals Leicester’s reaction to Brendan Rodger’s Man Utd links

Leicester City striker Ayoze Perez insists he and his team-mates have not been distracted by reports linking manager Brendan Rodgers with the Man Utd vacancy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Red Devils boss this weekend after a burning result – which included a 4-2 loss to Foxes at King Power Stadium.

90min understands that Rodgers would be prepared to take the United job on a permanent basis right now, although the club revealed in their statement that they are announcing Solskjaer’s dismissal that they intend to appoint a temporary manager until the end of the season.

Perez, who was recruited by Rodgers from Newcastle for the 2019/20 season, has said that Leicester do not maintain the links.

“We are not even thinking about that possibility [Rodgers leaving]. What he has shown us, he is completely focused on where we can improve “, he said at a press conference before Leicester’s Europa League match with Legia Warsaw.

“We are not thinking of anything else, not him either. We are really focused here.

“He’s trying to get us to think about the basics [to improve form]. You must try not to overthink and exaggerate things. We are sure that the profit is close. We know how important tomorrow is and we are focused on that. ”

After missing the Champions League qualifiers during each of the last two seasons, Leicester have started the 2021/22 campaign in relatively poor form. They are in 12th place in the Premier League table and have only taken five points from their first four Europa League matches.

Rodgers admitted at the same press conference that he is confident the Foxes will find some rhythm again and defended his side from criticism after losing 3-0 to Chelsea this weekend.

“Confidence is not at the level we want it to be. I have no doubt it will return. We must continue to work hard,” he said.

“I felt that this weekend we played against one of the top teams – not only in our league or Europe but in the world. It was without a lack of effort, attitude and energy.

“I just ask for a little perspective, these players have given so much in recent years.”
