Barcelona are considering taking on Tanguy Ndombele in January

Barcelona are considering whether to go after the long-term transfer goal Tanguy Ndombele in the January window.

Tottenham’s midfielder has failed to live up to the hype on a consistent basis after his club record move from Lyon in 2019.

Barça have been fans of Ndombele since those days in Ligue 1, and Sport reports that they may rekindle their interest this winter.

They write that Antonio Conte’s arrival at Spurs has accelerated talks with Milan’s Franck Kessie about a move to north London on a free transfer, and it may present Ndombele on the market again.

Barcelona are looking for a box-to-box midfielder and believe that Ndombele fits that profile, while also retaining interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria and Marseilles Boubacar Kamara.

Kessie was also on Barça’s first shortlist, but the club’s recruiting staff felt he was not as good at developing the ball as their second goal.

The sport adds that Xavi – who the club hopes will be named Barcelona’s new coach at the end of the week – will have an important influence over which midfielder the club pursues in the coming window.

Spurs are likely to demand much of the £ 62 million they paid for Ndombele, which would keep Barcelona’s interest at arm’s length until the summer.

90min understands that Ndombele was the subject of interest from Bayern Munich this summer, but Spurs repulsed their strategies due to their belief in the midfielder.

Conte also tried to sign Ndombele while training at Inter, and will now get in touch with him in north London.

Spurs football manager Fabio Paratici said on Wednesday that he and the club believe in the current player staff and rejected proposals that they plan major squad changes during the new year.
