Barcelona have rekindled their interest in recruiting France and Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The 26-year-old looked to come to Barça as early as 2019 when he ran his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, but the move broke down despite the length of the agreement and salaries being agreed.
He is now at Juventus, where he has not impressed much, and becomes more of a symbol of the Serie A club’s clumsy signing in recent years, which resulted in them losing their league crown to Inter last year.
According to El Nacional, however, Rabiot may fall again with a move to Barcelona. They report that he has asked to leave Juve at the end of the season and one of the first teams he has been offered to is the Catalan giants.
Each arrival would have to be written by the new head coach Xavi and there are doubts about Rabiot’s character and whether he would fit in well at Camp Nou. Barça is already in big trouble both financially and with results on the field and can not afford more bad moves in the transfer market.
While he has been linked with a move – with Newcastle even mentioned as another potential destination – Rabiot himself denied any desire to leave Juve and insisted he has a future with the club.
He said: “I’m happy in Turin. I see my future at Juventus, of course.”
The former PSG man spoke after France’s pounding 8-0 victory over Kazakhstan, during which he scored the sixth goal. Kylian Mbappe scored four goals while Karim Benzema scored, with Antoine Griezmann also scoring a penalty.
That victory secured Les Bleus’ place at the Qatar World Cup 2022, and united with a host of other nations to reach next year’s global showpiece, while more can join them in the final matches of the international break.
Rabiot has made 95 appearances for Juventus since joining 2019, scoring six goals in all competitions.
