Brendan Rodgers confirms that Ricardo Pereira has broken his leg in fear of the Tyler Morton challenge

Brendan Rodgers has revealed that defender Ricardo Pereira suffered a broken leg as a result of a scare tackle from Tyler Morton in Leicester’s EFL Cup loss to Liverpool on Wednesday.

The Portuguese national team player was on his way to a dangerous challenge from the teenager just before half time of Foxe’s final defeat, but was 3-1 up at Anfield at the time of the incident.

Leicester conceded two late goals as Liverpool drew on penalties and won on the spot to book their place in the semi-final against Arsenal.

Rodgers made several changes to his starting XI for Leicester’s trip to Manchester City on the second day, revealing after Foxes’ 6-3 humility that Pereira could miss the next two months of action.

“Ricardo Pereira will be [out for] six to eight weeks, “Rodgers told the Daily Mirror.

“It is so frustrating for him with how hard he has worked. For the judge not to see it, it is a fracture in the fibula and he is lucky that it is not worse.”

This injury is the latest in a long line of setbacks for Pereira, who has missed much of this season with a hamstring problem and tore his ACL back in 2020.

Referee Andy Madley thought Morton’s challenge against Pereira was worth a yellow card, and since VAR was not used in the Carabao Cup before the semi-final, the midfielder escaped with caution.

The tackle was similar to Harry Kanes against Andy Robertson in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham days before the Leicester clash. That challenge received a lot of attention and remarkable criticism from both Red’s staff and fans because even the England captain escaped with only a yellow card when a red card would have seemed to be a fairer penalty.

Leicester have a chance to avenge their defeat in the Carabao Cup when Liverpool make the trip to King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
