Brian Schmetzer has called on his Seattle Sounders team to correct the “worrying” defense that caused them to go down 1-0 in the first half against LA Galaxy on Monday.
The Sounders were able to recover with Raul Ruidiaz scoring a “Panenka” penalty in the second half.
But the defense of the Galaxy opener left much to be desired, with three Sounders defenders drawn to Derrick Williams at the near post when Sebastian Lletget hit a corner. Williams threw the ball on to Chicharito, who had then been released inside the sexy yard area to throw the ball home.
Seattle are now unbeaten in five games with the MLS Cup playoffs around the corner. If they are to be a threat after the season, things must improve.
“That one was disturbing,” Schmetzer said of Chicharito’s case (via the Seattle Times). Believe it or not, in recent weeks we have adjusted our defense on our set goals. How that goal happened to Chicharito alone in the box, we will look at it and try to correct it.
“But we worked hard to defend our corner kicks and then we give up an early goal.… It was not terrible, the performance, but there are certainly areas for improvement that must take place before we enter the playoffs – solid games, defense and our attacking rhythm to There was no rhythm in the game. “
This ending from Chicharito was FILTHY?

Attention is now focused on Sounder’s final game of the regular season, away against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday. Midfielder Kelyn Rowe says Seattle will use that game as a boost to confidence ahead of the playoffs, acknowledging that his team has been “lucky” to suffer this slump before the off-season, not during.
“I said this a few weeks ago, but we’m lucky this is not the playoffs,” Rowe said. “We have another match to go into where we can rectify these events and make sure we are at the forefront when we enter the playoffs. We know we will be there, so once the playoffs have come we have to see that our way of thinking is correct as well as our tactics. ”
The Sounders are top of the Western Conference, but have only a one-point lead over Sporting KC, who have played one game less.
