Chelsea and Barcelona are considering the Kingsley Coman deal

Chelsea and Barcelona are monitoring Kingsley Comans’ contract situation in Bayern Munich, with the talks in a deadlock.

The winger has been in dazzling form this season when he has played, but although that is not necessarily reflected in his return of two goals and an assist in all competitions so far, the 25-year-old has already had gigs after a knock and heart surgery.

Coman’s current contract expires in 2023 and talks on a new contract have stalled due to his salary demands. The French national team player wants to double his salary from 10 million euros to 20 million euros per year, but the Bavarian giants have so far only offered about 13 million euros, according to Bild.

As a result, Coman’s representatives are believed to be considering the option of terminating their contract at the Allianz Arena, with the aim of sealing a free transfer and a big money contract elsewhere in 18 months.

Chelsea and Barcelona have drawn attention to the situation and the possibility of catching a world-class player for a reduced price or free 2023.

Bild claims that Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic will be under pressure to secure a transfer fee for the winger instead of losing him for nothing, in the midst of the difficult economic climate of the coronavirus pandemic. A fee of 55 million euros is considered the worst case scenario as his contract ticks down.

There are parallels with David Alaba’s latest departure from Die Roten, which followed a breakdown in the contract negotiations in 2020 due to perceived excessive wage demands.

The Austrian eventually joined Real Madrid on a free transfer during the summer when Bayern could have ordered a transfer fee a year earlier.

Salihamidzic is not known for bringing in large transfer fees, and generated just € 160 million in player sales since taking up his role in August 2017.

Although he is only 25, Coman has won the league every year of his professional career so far during his time with Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Bayern – which includes two Ligue 1 crowns, a Scudetto and six Bundesliga titles.
