Chicago Fire FC announces listing decision before 2022

Chicago Fire FC has announced its decisions in the playlist ahead of the 2022 Major League Soccer season, which will kick off on February 26.

2021 was another disappointing campaign for the club, which finished in 22nd place in the Major League Soccer table and 12th in the Eastern Conference with 34 points. The team failed to qualify for post-season four for a fourth year in a row.

The turbulence arose for the club after head coach Raphael Wicky was relieved of his duties in September.

“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank each of these players for their contribution to Fire,” said Sports Director Georg Heitz in a statement.

“As we enter a very important off-season, we felt that these decisions were necessary when we started upgrading the list. We wish the players all the best and look forward to providing further updates to the player list in the coming weeks.”

The team announced the decisions for nine players, seven rejected contract options and two players without contracts and qualified for free agency.

Contract options were rejected (November 8, 2021):

Out of contract (November 8, 2021):
