Conte approves Spurs’ hunt for Kessie & Romagnoli

Antonio Conte has already given the green light to some of Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans for 2022, understand 90min.

Football manager Fabio Paratici has been looking at Spurs’ options for next summer, and a deal he wants to secure and which is already progressing is for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie – who is out of contract at the end of the season.

90min confirmed earlier this year that Tottenham were heavily in contention to secure his signature and Conte is an avid admirer of the midfielder.

Kessie’s share has been on the rise in recent weeks with a number of Premier League clubs ready to make contract offers to the 24-year-old in January.

Sources close to Spurs have confirmed that a deal for Kessie is underway, although they realize it will be a big fight to get a deal across the border – but they believe Conte’s arrival could play a big role in him putting the pen up to paper.

90min has been told that Conte is also a fan of Kessie’s Milan teammate Alessio Romagnoli.

Rossoneri captain Romagnoli, just like Kessie, has just over six months left on his contract at the San Siro and Spurs also want to sign him. The club wants to bring in at least one midfielder, but two can come in 2022.

Conte has no problem with the club pursuing the Milan duo despite rival interest, including from his old team Chelsea.

If Tottenham manage to agree on personal terms for any of the players in January, they would consider advancing their arrival depending on Milan’s requirements. Spurs have previously agreed to a pre-contract with Lewis Holtby in 2013 before paying a lump sum to Schalke to buy out the rest of his deal in Germany.

90min understands that Milan have not yet given up hope of tying any of the players on long-term contracts, but both players have so far rejected all efforts for them to sign extensions.
