Cristiano Ronaldo does not accept that Man Utd is not a top 3 Premier League club

Cristiano Ronaldo has stated that he will not “accept” Man Utd, who finish in third place in the Premier League this season.

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles in six seasons during his first period at the club and never experienced a finish lower than third.

This time, however, it has been more challenging. United have largely struggled to perform, even since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his job in November, and the loss to Wolves last time left them in seventh place. It will not be easier against Aston Villa on Saturday either.

It was widely reported in November that Ronaldo has been surprised by falling standards at United, compared to the club he previously knew between 2003 and 2009.

Now he insists he will not be responsible for it but is convinced that changes can be made, even if it means “destroying” some things in the process – you might be able to guess what he means by that.

“In my heart, I do not accept that our mentality is less than being among the top three [Premier League clubs]”Ronaldo told Sky Sports.

“I think in order to build good things, sometimes you have to destroy some things. So why not – New Year, new life and I hope Manchester [United] can be the level that fans want. They deserve it.

“We are capable of changing things now. I know the way but I do not intend to mention this because I do not think it is ethical on my part to say so. What I can say is that we can do better – all of us. Manchester [United] belong to important things, so we need to change that.

“I do not want to be here to be in sixth place, or seventh place or fifth place. I am here to try to win, to compete. I think we are competing but we are not yet at our best level. But we have a long way to improve and I think if we change we can achieve great things. “
