Real Madrid defender David Alaba has revealed that he didn’t need the membership’s jersey quantity 4, which was left by Bernabeu legend Sergio Ramos, when he accomplished a free switch from Bayern Munich.

La Liga rules banned Alaba from taking 27 at Real. The first team’s troops in Spain’s highest flight may only contain jerseys from 1-25, with one, 13 and 25 reserved only for goalkeepers.

Shirts higher than 25 can be worn, but only by players promoted from a club’s B team during the season, not by permanent members of the a – team squad.

As such, Real’s jersey number 27 is currently registered to 21-year-old Castilla midfielder Antonio Blanco, who divides his time between senior and reserve team levels.
