FC Cincinnati appoint Pat Noonan as new head coach

FC Cincinnati has appointed Pat Noonan as its newest head coach for the MLS season 2022, the club announced on Tuesday.

He joins the Eastern Conference club after spending the last four seasons as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Union.

“We are proud to introduce Pat as the new head coach of FC Cincinnati,” Albright said in a press release. “He has shown a track record in coaching success and we are delighted to take his leadership to FC Cincinnati.”

Noonan also served as assistant coach with the LA Galaxy and the U.S. men’s national team, and worked with the current New England Revolution chief and sports director Bruce Arena at both stops.

“It’s an honor to be the head coach of FC Cincinnati,” said Noonan. “Thanks to Chris, Jeff Berding, Carl H. Lindner III and the ownership team for believing in me. I’m proud to take this opportunity at FC Cincinnati and get started.”

The recent appointment makes Noonan FC Cincinnati’s fourth head coach in their history. The club was previously led by Alan Koch, Ron Jans and Jaap Stam. Yoann Damet and Tyrone Marshall have both served as interim head coaches for varying lengths of time.

“I want to welcome Pat to FC Cincinnati,” said Lindner, FC Cincinnati’s CEO and controlling owner. “The search for the next head coach focused on candidates who had experience as a domestic coach, had thrived in winning environments and would be aligned in our vision for FC Cincinnati. I think we have found the best candidate for the job. We look forward to Pat and his family will join us. “

Orange and Blue hope that the latest coach change can affect the team’s position after three consecutive finishes at the bottom of the league since they joined MLS as an expansion side in 2019.

Last season, the team scored just 20 points in 34 games and suffered a total of 22 losses.
