Gotham FC fires GM Alyse LaHue for league offense

NWSL side NJ / NY Gotham fired former manager Alyse LaHue on July 9, the club announced on Friday.

Gotham cited the results of a league investigation as the reason for her forced resignation. In her absence, Vice President Ed Nalbandian will have the day-to-day operations. Club president Tammy Murphy has begun looking for LaHue’s successor as manager.

The club released a statement that read: “On July 9, the property informed LaHue that she is no longer employed by NJ / NY Gotham based on the results of a league investigation into a complaint about violations of league policy. During his three years with the club, Gotham FC has made great progress on and off the pitch and built the foundation for continued success. Vice President Ed Nalbandian will oversee day-to-day operations, while ownership under club president Tammy Murphy will begin looking for a successor. “

According to league rules, Gotham did not disclose the nature of the complaint against LaHue or the outcome of the investigation. Athletic reported, however, that LaHue violates league policy against harassment, a rule introduced in April to create and maintain “a safe and respectful work environment free from all forms of harassment (including sexual harassment) and discrimination.”

Following the team’s announcement, LaHue’s attorney submitted a statement to Athletic on behalf of her client.

“Ms. LaHue denies the allegations against her and will not comment,” said attorney Kelly M. Hoffman.

Alyse LaHue first joined the club in May 2018 as vice president before becoming interim manager in April 2019. Months later, she was appointed the official manager and began the club’s progressive renaming that would see the team go from Sky Blue FC to NJ / NY Gotham.

LaHue resigned at the end of June and failed to appear at the team’s home game against Kansas City at the Red Bull Arena on July 2. Normally extremely active on Twitter, LaHue has not published anything since June 18.
