Harry Kane “very excited” about working with Antonio Conte

Harry Kane is “very excited” about starting work under Antonio Conte after the Italian was appointed Tottenham’s new head coach on Tuesday.

Conte succeeds Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked after just 17 appearances, and becomes Spurs’ third permanent manager in three years.

The former Juventus and Chelsea boss joins an agreement until the summer of 2023 with an option for another year, and Football. London understands that his appointment has impressed the lost Kane.

The English captain was desperate to leave Spurs during the summer with interest from Manchester City, but the club stood firm and he remained in north London.

However, Kane is considered “very excited” and “absolutely excited” about working with Conte, while he is also impressed with the level of ambition shown to take him to Tottenham.

The striker has not yet found his feet in the Premier League this season, he has only scored one goal in nine games, but Conte’s arrival could bring life to Spurs’ campaign.

Like Kane, the rest of Tottenham’s locker rooms are keen to implement a new style of football under Conte.

Conte discussed Kane’s role as a modern striker when he worked as an expert at the European Championships 2020 and said: “Many praise Harry Kane for his ability to take the ball and play with the team, as with the equalizer against Denmark.

“But it’s in the box where he’s clinical and as a coach I would always keep him there because he’s devastating.”

Conte had also branded Kane as a “complete striker” during his stay at Chelsea, even though he only managed to score a goal in five games against his Blues team.

The Italian’s first match for Spurs comes on Thursday at home against Vitesse in the Europa Conference League.
