How to watch Man Utd vs Man City on TV

The Manchester derby is at the center of the Premier League this weekend when United host Ctiy at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the man under pressure on the sidelines, although it has eased somewhat since the Red Devils’ embarrassing 5-0 thumping in the hands of Liverpool. Since that humiliation, United are unbeaten in two and beat Tottenham 3-0 before making a 2-2 draw against Atalanta. United end up in fifth place in the table, three points behind their city rivals.

They host a City side that has faltered recently, although they are still third in the table. After a disappointing exit from the League Cup in West Ham, Pep Guardiola’s men fell to defeat in their latest Premier League outing, succumbing to a very strong Crystal Palace and losing 2-0 at home. Although they bounced back strongly in the middle of the week to see Club Brugge with 4-1 in the Champions League.

Here’s a 90 – minute preview of this weekend’s mammoth clash.

Raphael Varane will be absent from the Manchester derby, after suffering a hamstring injury in United’s midweek draw against Atalanta. The good news, however, is that Victor Lindelof should be ready to start in the Frenchman’s absence.

Another notable absentee will be Paul Pogba, who is still serving a three-match suspension for the straight red card he drew against Liverpool. The match against City will be the second of his legs.

Guardiola also has poor discipline in his ranks, as he has to do without the suspended Aymeric Laporte for Saturday’s clash. The Spaniard saw straight red against Palace in City’s last domestic trip, which denied Wilfried Zaha a clear goal opportunity.

Ferran Torres is a confirmed injury absent, but Kyle Walker is also hesitant after limping out midweek’s Champions League win over Club Brugge. If he does not recover in time, it could push Joao Cancelo back to the right and offer Oleksandr Zinchenko a chance on the left.

Man Utd: De Gea; Bailly, Lindelof, Maguire; Wan-Bissaka, McTominay, Fred, Shaw; Fernandes; Rashford, Ronaldo

Man City: Ederson; Cancelo, Stones, Dias, Zinchenko; Rodri, Silva, De Bruyne; Jesus, Foden, Grealish

Despite all the different fortunes on the field between these two sides in recent years, there has been no real dominance in this match. None of them have won more than two straight derbies in all competitions since City played four together in 2013 and 2014.

Solskjaer is undefeated in their last four Premier League matches with Guardiola, a match that includes three victories. But among them, the latter has twice won cup matches.

United have even been in the habit of winning the derby against the odds when the pressure is high, such as a 3-2 comeback win in April 2018 and an unexpected victory in December 2019.

Derby matches are often tight and given the outstanding quality shown in this, it is difficult to predict.

United have reacted well to their disastrous defeat against Liverpool, although victory against a desperate Spurs and relying on Cristiano Ronaldo to salvage a point at Atalanta should not put the team under too many illusions.

City has also endured a rocky time recently; by no means as humiliating, but still enough to cause a significant bump in the road. As it looks, however, Guardiola’s side probably has the upper hand, with an almost inexhaustible variety of goals and scorers. Their overall quality and ability to dictate procedures is likely to allow them to dominate their opposition for much of the game – and when that happens, the opposition tends to crack.

It will be a close affair, but City’s generally superior collective brilliance could do better.

Prediction: Man Utd 1-2 Man City
