Inter Miami has announced its decisions in the list for the upcoming 2022 Major League Soccer season, which begins on February 26.
Following a disappointing campaign in 2021, South Florida will make several changes to the squad. But Inter Miami is facing a difficult transfer window after receiving sanctions related to the league’s investigation into their acquisition of Blaise Matuidi.
For each of the next two seasons, the club will lack more than $ 2 million in allocation money. With several expensive players under contract, the team must find a way to free up money to make the necessary improvements to a list that ended the season seven points below the Eastern Conference playoff line.
During the revelation, football manager and sports director Chris Henderson added that the conversations between the team and some players remain ongoing and that all situations may change.
“Inter Miami would like to thank the players, coaches and staff for their work and contributions during the 2021. season. The club continues to work hard to build a team that will give our incredible fans the success they deserve,” said Henderson.
“We are continuing talks with several players about returning next year and aim to recruit exciting new talent who will help us reach our goals.”
At the moment, the team announced that 19 players are under contract when the off-season begins, including designated players Rodolfo Pizarro, Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuian.
Miami has also chosen not to exercise any of the contract options, officially rejecting 10 while three players are without a contract. Ventura Alvarado, Kelvin Leerdam and Victor Ulloa were among the 10 players whose contract options were rejected.
