Inter predicted the line-up against Lazio

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter host their former team Lazio at the San Siro in Serie A on Sunday night.

Since losing 3-1 to his former employers in mid-October, Inzaghi has led the Nerazzurri on an 11-match unbeaten run in Serie A (W9 D2), winning his last seven excursions on the spin.

Here is XI Inter can distribute to expand the title-winning form.

Samir Handanovic (GK) – With Ajax Andre Onana set to arrive in Milan next summer, Inter’s veteran goalkeeper may not be the undisputed number one for much longer.

Milan Skriniar (CB) – One of the two straight red cards Skriniar has received in his career came against Lazio – by the way when they were ruled by his current coach.

Stefan de Vrij (CB) – With periods in the Italian capital and Inter under Inzaghi, no coach has given the calming Dutch midfielder more minutes than the 45-year-old (8,209).

Alessandro Bastoni (CB) – Inter’s enormously talented 22-year-old has not lost a home match in Serie A since May 2020 – and even then he was sent off against Bologna while the score was 1-1.

Denzel Dumfries (RWB) – Achraf Hakimi’s replacement, who initially eased into the group after coming to the summer, has started the last five league matches and scored three goals in his last four matches.

Nicolo Barella (CM) – Serie A’s leading assist provider (divided into seven with two other players) created 15 chances during its first six matches of the season, but has only created 14 opportunities during the following 11 matches.

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) – The only outside player to start every Serie A match for Inter this term has surprisingly been allowed to enter the last six months of his contract with the club, although Inzaghi is convinced of an extension.

Roberto Gagliardini (CM) – Not a regular member of Inter’s established midfield but can get a fourth league start with Hakan Calhanoglu’s availability in doubt.

Ivan Perisic (LWB) – Inzaghi’s tireless and extremely reliable fullback has scored two of Inter’s top 12 nodded goals this season.

Joaquin Correa (ST) – The “victim” of one of Serie A’s most bizarre fights with red cards this semester when his former teammate and holiday buddy Luiz Felipe playfully jumped on Correa after the final whistle in the reverse match with Lazio. Neither Correa nor the referee saw the funny side and Felipe was dismissed in tears.

Lautaro Martinez (ST) – Lautaro enjoys the form of his career and scores an average or assist every 82 minutes in Serie A this season.
