John Fleck recovers in hospital after collapsing during Reading vs Sheffield United

Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck is recovering in hospital after collapsing on the pitch during his 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred halfway through the second half at Madejski Stadium and the match was stopped for a while while Fleck was treated.

Sheffield United then tweeted: “Regarding moments when emergency medical care is needed for John Fleck. The game has not started again but the Scottish midfielder is on his feet and receiving additional medical care.”

They later added: “John Fleck leaves the pitch on a stretcher after receiving emergency medical care. Our thoughts go to you, Flecky!”

Blades, who had 1-0 at the time, went on to see the victory and dedicated the three points to Fleck at full time.

After the match, Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic revealed that Fleck was recovering in hospital – and even asked what the end result was.

“He is conscious, he asked for the result,” Jokanovic said. “He wanted to know and we hope that everything will work out.

“Everything happened very quickly and he is in good hands now. I can not comment further. But, I repeat, he is in safe hands and we clearly hope that everything will work out.”

Reading manager Veljko Paunovic added: “The experience was traumatic and it was horrible. I hope John will return to normal life very soon and be back and play football as well as I know he can and has played.

“We are sending the best to him and his family. We sincerely hope that everything is okay.”

Fleck has been a consistent figure in Blade’s side this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions and scoring a goal as well as an assist.
