Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has laughed at reports that he has already committed to joining Liverpool in the near future.
The 18-year-old has been outstanding for Dortmund since leaving Birmingham City in 2020, with the entire European elite monitoring England’s national team players’ progress.
Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Bellingham, but it was taken to the next level by former Middlesbrough midfielder Craig Hignett, who told BBC Radio Merseyside he had heard “on good authority” that Bellingham had told those close to him that he would to join the Reds.
“I think I heard it on good authority and I can not say where I heard it from, but obviously he has said he is tied to Liverpool,” said Hignett (via the Daily Mail). “Whether it’s January or whether it’s the end of the season is not certain yet, but I think I have good authorities that it’s almost a CAC.”
Well, these claims found their way to Bellingham, who responded to a tweet of the report with a GIF of himself laughing, telling everything you need to know about this story.
Bellingham has since removed the answer, but his message was clear.
The teenager has been a regular part of Dortmund’s starting line-up for a while now and has impressed with two goals and three assists in ten Bundesliga matches this season.
That’s why so many European giants are keeping an eye on the 18-year-old, but Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl, who first sparked Liverpool speculation, has warned Bellingham’s freer to expect a real fight to keep him.
“He is a Borussia Dortmund player and will remain a Borussia Dortmund player,” Kehl said recently. “There is a lot of interest in Jude Bellingham, not just Liverpool.
“It’s good that we’re talking about our players. It shows we’re doing something right. We can offer a lot in Borussia Dortmund. We want to win titles, but we have to keep the guys for it.”
