Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool have three new positive cases of Covid-19 in their squad, along with more infections among their staff.
The Reds have had to do without the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho and Curtis Jones in recent weeks due to positive test results, even though Van Dijk and Fabinho were involved in the 1-0 loss to Leicester a few days ago.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea on Sunday, Klopp said: “We have three new covid cases in the team and a few more in the staff, so it’s not that cool right now.
“I am not [able to reveal the names] because we still have to do all the processes, get a proper PCR and all that stuff, but you’ll see tomorrow in the team market. It will be pretty clear then who is affected or infected. “
Asked if Liverpool could ask to postpone the Chelsea game, he added: “Not yet, but we do not know.
“We have never had this type of proper outbreak where 10, 15, 20 players had it, for us it is more every day a different one. Staff now happens more and more often so it feels like a lottery in the morning when you stand there and waiting for the result. It was now almost day by day always one case – today another.
“We have to wait, the boys are not even in yet, so we have to wait. At the moment, probably not, but we do not know what it will look like in a few hours. “
If the match were to be interrupted, it would join Southampton’s match with Newcastle and Leicester’s match against Norwich by being postponed to the New Year weekend.
Liverpool remain without Takumi Minamino and Thiago, and Klopp continues: “I would say that Taki is probably closer, he runs outside.
“Thiago, not yet. It means to him that it can take a little longer. It’s a hip problem that we have no idea where it’s coming from, so we have to be a little patient with it.
