Jurgen Klopp issues injury updates for Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that both Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara are in Liverpool’s group game against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday, but Naby Keita is still away.

The Reds are currently experiencing a selection crisis in midfield. In addition to the aforementioned trio, James Milner has also been missing recently and he will not return in time for the visit of Atletico. Curtis Jones a long absence as well.

Keita has been involved in the war recently, and received shocks in each of his team’s last two matches against Manchester United and Brighton, where the latter kept him away on Wednesday. Fabinho and Thiago, meanwhile, are back in action after recovering from their fitness problems.

“Naby has a hamstring injury so will be gone for a while. Other than that, Millie, it’s clear [he won’t be involved] and the others who are gone in the long run will also be gone, Klopp revealed at his press conference before the match.

“Fabinho and Thiago trained normally and are in battle, which of course is good. It is very useful and so we will see.”

“Injuries [in this] period of the season are completely normal, as long as they are not too harsh we have to accept it. The players will return, hopefully soon, and then they will be in battle again as well, he added.

“But for tomorrow, it’s just the well-trained players, of course.”

Wednesday’s match has a lot to live up to, with the two teams offering us a fantastic spectacle on match day 3. Liverpool won that meeting 3-2 in a match where Antoine Griezmann took a stand before he was sent off.

It is a critical match also in Group B. Liverpool could secure advancement to the knockout stage with a victory, while Atletico need a result to avoid losing second place – where they are currently only on goal difference.
