Liverpool have equaled their unbeaten club record of 25 games after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory over 10-man Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Reds previously played a quarter of a century of games without defeat in all competitions as early as 1982 under the leadership of Bob Paisley – who left the club after nine historic years as responsible shortly thereafter.
Liverpool’s current run began as early as April when a last – minute goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold gave them a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa. Since that day, the Reds have navigated 24 games and avoided defeats in each of them.
The riot has included two victories over bitter rivals Manchester United, the first a 4-2 victory in May and the second a 5-0 humiliation at Old Trafford in October.
During their series, they have also defeated Atletico twice with the second victory that set them in the goal of setting a new club record.
In order for the current team to write their names in Liverpool’s history, they must avoid defeat in their next match – a trip to London Stadium to face West Ham. However, this is not an easy task.
West Ham enter the game after three wins and are currently just two points behind second-placed Liverpool in fourth place.
Jurgen Klopp has received a boost before the match, with the injured couple Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara both returning to the match for his team’s victory over Atleti. Fabinho started the match at the base of the midfield while Thiago was introduced as a substitute in the second half.
However, this is not all good news. Naby Keita, who suffered an injury during his team’s draw against Brighton this weekend, is expected to miss the trip to the capital, as well as James Milner and potentially Curtis Jones.
