New Leicester City Women coach Lydia Bedford has given her first interview since taking the lead, after Jonathan Morgan was fired last month.
Morgan was sacked after the Foxes failed to record a single WSL score from their first eight games, following their promotion to the top tier. Since then, Emile Heskey has been in a temporary lead, with his only match in dugout a victory over Man Utd in the League Cup.
Bedford – who previously coached Tottenham and the London Bees before joining the international set – has now been hired on a permanent basis.
“It’s a really exciting project,” said Bedford. “Today is the first day but I was able to come in last week and observe the team and staff, which has been a great start for me.
“It’s such a great opportunity and I’m just looking forward to getting started with the girls and working hard to get us out of this relegation battle and make sure we stay in WSL where we belong.

– The facilities speak for themselves. They are one of the best in WSL and being here last week and seeing that we have greens that we can get out on at any time and facilities that are our own to use is a great asset for any coach who works with players.
“I think this is an opportunity to go back to club football at a time when the game is professional and hopefully I can take the experience from pre-professional and take it into what is now a really attractive league and help the team within that. ”
Although Bedford join the Foxes at the bottom of the WSL table, there is still hope that they will stay in the division. The Foxes are just after 11th place Birmingham City with a single point and have been unhappy in several games this season.
