Andros Townsend has insisted that he doesn’t respect Cristiano Ronaldo by copying the Portuguese famous person’s celebration.
Townsend made Everton’s equalizer of their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday and celebrated with Ronaldo’s signature “siu” celebration in entrance of the touring followers.
When he spoke to BT Sport full time, the previous English winger claimed that this was only a respect for United’s No. 7.
“This guy is my idol. I grew up watching him, hours on the training ground trying to perform his techniques, maybe having to spend more time on his celebration! It was not good performance!
“But it was respect for Ronaldo, honored to be on the identical degree as him.”
Ronaldo was contacted by Townsend after the last whistle, but the Portuguese captain was dismissive of all calls and instead went straight down the Old Trafford tunnel.
Townsend’s equalizer came after Demarai Gray and Abdoulaye Doucoure superbly carried the ball onto the pitch, with the Frenchman who expertly found the 30-year-old to burst into the penalty area and throw the ball into the far corner.
“It was incredible,” Townsend said of the goal. “Demarai does what he does finest on the counterattack together with his tempo and energy. Then as quickly as attainable [Doucoure] I understood that I knew what high quality and imaginative and prescient he has had all season, I knew that if I agreed with him he would have put it in my manner and fortunately I managed at this level to hold my composure and put it in the underside nook. “
A draw extends Man Utd’s dismal run with only one win within the final 4 house matches, with the one victory coming in a blazing warmth of their Champions League recreation with Villarreal in the midst of the week.
