Mauricio Pochettino would “still like” the Man Utd job

Mauricio Pochettino could still become Manchester United coach in the future, with the club’s long – term interest in the Argentine still mutual.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was under enormous pressure at the beginning of last week in the wake of the 5-0 loss against Liverpool at Old Trafford. He survived the firing then and had time to turn things around, starting with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.

But Solskjaer’s position will continue to be in an intense spotlight and any further setbacks will be carefully examined from all angles.

At one point, United officials were rumored to be “seriously considering” firing the Norwegian. 90min revealed last week that Pochettino is still hugely popular among a number of club figures and can not be counted out of the competition if Solskjaer’s time runs out.

Laurie Whitwell from The Athletic has suggested that, although Pochettino is currently being approached by PSG on a 2023 contract, it “could still happen” because he “would still like the United job”.

Pochettino is also known for having an affair with United icon Sir Alex Ferguson, who still has a strong voice within the walls of Old Trafford and Carrington.

Although he received an extension of his contract last summer, Pochettino’s own position in Paris is not necessarily certain. After taking over in January, his team finished second after Lille in Ligue 1 and was knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals. It would not take much for questions to begin to be asked if he fails to deliver during his first full season.
