Newcastle predicted the line-up against Man Utd

Newcastle welcome Manchester United to St James ‘Park on Monday night as the Magpies’ fight to stave off relegation from the Premier League continues.

Surprisingly, Newcastle are just three points from safety, but have only won one match all season. That victory came against second-placed Burnley, and Eddie Howe’s side is still in trouble.

The Tyneside club is expected to spend big money during the transfer window in January to increase their survival hopes, but they have a couple of games to navigate before then.

This is how they can line up against Manchester United …

Martin Dubravka (GK) – With his injury worries behind him, Dubravka is firmly ahead of Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman in the pick order.

Jacob Murphy (RB) – Better offensively than defensively certainly, but will need to put in a shift here to keep United quiet.

Fabian Schar (CB) – The Swiss share has fallen off a cliff this season after several errors and loss of concentration despite his obvious technical qualities.

Jamaal Lascelles (CB) – The club captain will have his hands full against Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ciaran Clark (CB) – A test time too late, but Isaac Hayden’s suspension means that Howe can return to playing three midfielders.

Matt Ritchie (LB) – Ritchie and Howe have a long history together. Looks pretty similar too.

Allan Saint-Maximin (RM) – Giving the Frenchman the ball will undoubtedly be Newcastle’s best method for successfully getting on the pitch.

Sean Longstaff (CM) – Once Longstaff’s target for Man Utd, Longstaff will end his work in the fight against Scott McTominay and Fred.

Miguel Almiron (CM) – Joe Willock has struggled since his permanent move to Newcastle, which means Almiron should get the nod in midfield here.

Joelinton (LM) – His pace of work and height should both come in handy.

Callum Wilson (CF) – Will be isolated for the most part, but if he gets a sniff on goal he will have to be clinical if Newcastle are to take anything from this.
