Norwich City have confirmed Dean Smith as the successor to Daniel Farke at Carrow Road.

Farke got his marching orders after securing the Canary Islands’ first victory of the season just over a week ago, but the injury had already happened with Norwich who picked up only five points from their first 11 matches.

Smith, who was fired last week by boys’ club Aston Villa, has now signed for Norwich and is tasked with leading them to Premier League safety.

In a statement, Smith said: “It’s been a whirlwind for seven days, but I’m really happy to be back and working for Norwich City in the Premier League.

“It’s obvious that it has been a fantastic job that has been put into this football club over the last four and a half years. It is now my and Craig’s job to continue and improve that work with the ultimate goal of surviving in the Premier League. .

“Norwich City is a great club, with a massive hardcore of supporters who fully understand what it means to be part of the club and its community.

“I grew up in an era when Norwich competed in Europe – I remember those times well and when I have visited Carrow Road and Norwich you can really feel the connection between the fans, the staff and the players. Together we must all make Carrow Road a really tough one. place for visiting teams.

“From the age of 16, I have worked with football. I think during that time I have been out for four months and did not enjoy it. It’s great to come back directly to a club that is determined to be progressive.

“I have always worked to improve and develop players – with that comes, of course, improved performance. I was really impressed by the idea, structure and vision that already exists at the club.

“I have also been really impressed by the work Stuart has done in both Huddersfield and Norwich and he is someone I have known for a while. Much of my background has worked with sporting directors at both Brentford and Aston Villa. It is an important relationship and I’m sure we will work well together here. ”
