Player ratings like Nerazzurri all but confirm the last 16th place

Inter took a big step towards qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages by defeating Shakhtar Donetsk 2-0, thanks to an Edin Dzeko score.

Shakhtar traveled to the San Siro on Wednesday night without a win in Group D and once the Nerazzurri moved on after an annoying first half, they never looked like letting their guests into the match.

The first 45 minutes there were no goals but there was still a lot of excitement. Nicolo Barella had the first real chance of the match and shot over when the ball kindly fell against him in the box.

Shortly after Andrea Ranocchia failed to convert a free kick and Ivan Perisic had a fantastic chance ruled out, as Matteo Darmian was barely offside in the build-up.

As one would expect from a team led by Roberto De Zerbi, Shakhtar took many risks when he played from behind and this gave occasional setbacks – especially when they abandoned their possession and allowed Dzeko a presentable view of the goal, which he did not could benefit from. .

Before the break, it was still time for both Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez to cheat big chances when Inter went into the locker room frustrated.

11 minutes after the break, the hosts had the ball in the net again through Martinez, just so that the referee would blow up for a push and keep the score even. At the hour mark, Inter finally scored a legitimate goal with Dzeko reacting the fastest at power home with the ball bouncing around the box.

Six minutes later it was 2-0. Dzeko was again the goal scorer, and nodded the incurable Perisic post in the net at the back post.

This fast-paced double shook Shakhtar visibly, but the visitors gathered enough for right-back Dodo to hit the inside of the post after a terrible home defense.

The win means that Inter will advance to the last 16 if Real Madrid beat the Minnows Sheriff later tonight.

Samir Handanovic (GK) – 6/10 – Very little to do but handled everything that came in his way and distributed efficiently.

Milan Skriniar (CB) – 7/10 – Forced himself on Shakhtar’s front line with a physical display.

Andrea Ranocchia (CB) – 6/10 – Missed a golden chance in the early substitutions. Could have done better in the air too.

Alessandro Bastoni (CB) – 7/10 – Comfortable. Went out of defense sometimes with real confidence.

Matteo Darmian (RWB) – 7/10 – Continued its rich form with a dynamic display.

Nicolo Barella (CM) – 7/10 – Should have scored early. Drove purposefully forward and caught the eye with some good consistent balls.

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) – 7/10 – Helped Inter control the game with their pass from the depths.

Hakan Calhanoglu (CM) – 6/10 – A few moments but largely faded into the background. Hit a corner straight out of play. Ooooffoff.

Ivan Perisic (LWB) – 9/10 – Electric early, create chances, score an (illicit) goal and defend fantastically. Continued to threaten as the match progressed and received a well-deserved assist.

Joaquin Correa (ST) – 6/10 – One of the few Inter players who maintains the intensity until the end.

Arturo Vidal (CM) – N / A

Danilo D’Ambrosio (RWB) – N / A
