Ralf Rangnick admits that members of the Man Utd squad are “unhappy” but demands belonging

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has admitted that some members of his team are “unhappy” in the midst of reports of locker room turbulence at the club.

It has been suggested that morale has declined in recent weeks, with clicks formed as a result of a number of players being disillusioned with their lack of playing time during both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his successor Rangnick.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that morale was at its lowest level after Man Utd’s 1-0 loss to Wolves and as many as 11 players want to leave the club, while several are even said to be unimpressed by Rangnick’s coaching, tactics and assistants.

Pressed on the question at his press conference before the match before the meeting with Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night, the German claimed that he “did not know” about the atmosphere in the camp.

“I can only tell you about the squad,” he said. “Of course I do not know about the atmosphere in the club, the players, the locker room, the coaching staff, everyone was very disappointed after the match [against Wolves], the behavior.

“Now we have four days of training, yesterday, today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow before the Aston Villa match, and our job is to show a different performance against Aston Villa.”

Asked how deep United’s problems are at the moment, Rangnick replied: “This is not just a problem with a club like Manchester United. When you have a big squad, in the last two games, we had most of the players available. We had three midfielders are missing against Wolves.

“In general, we had the most players available, apart from Paul Pogba and ten few players can play, three subbed, then you have quite a few players who do not even play or not even in the squad.

“These players are unhappy with the situation, it’s obvious, clear. I usually explain to the players every two or three weeks why they are not playing and that is an issue for our team and other clubs.”

He added: “We have players with contracts that expire this summer. We also have one or two more people who want to leave and are under contract. It’s about the players handling it in a professional way, showing up at training sessions, showing up , get a chance to play.

“If this is not the case, the player, the club and the agents must discuss the situation. I can not tell anyone else. I will address it to the players immediately.

“We have made some progress but obviously against the Wolves it was a step back, a return to habits we have shown before.

“We have to insist that we have to work together. We can only get better at ball possession, together. We have to do things together. With passion, feeling and intensity.”
