Leeds talisman Raphinha has been linked with a sensational € 50m transfer to Bayern Munich in January, although conflicting reports suggest he will go nowhere.
The Brazilian national team player has been Leeds ‘leading player since the Whites’ return to the Premier League, scoring eight goals and giving up 11 assists last season. He has already matched the goal figures this semester despite Marcelo Bielsa’s team fight.
According to a report in his home country Brazil, that form has attracted the attention of the Bavarian giants Bavaria. TNT Sport Brasil claims that the winger will join Die Roten for around £ 40 million in January, despite the wealth of talent that the Bundesliga champions possess in the wider areas.
TNT goes so far as to suggest that Raphinha’s former club Avai has included the potential unexpected gain they will receive in their budget for next year.
However, conflicting reports from both Yorkshire and Munich suggest that this is not the case.
The Yorkshire Evening Post writes that Bayern have not yet expressed any interest in the 25-year-old, and although his current contract does not expire until 2024, talks are underway about an improved contract on Elland Road.
At the same time, the German newspaper Bild adds that Bayern would only choose a new wide man in the event that one of their current stars leaves in January – which seems unlikely.
Die Roten currently has some of the best outfielders on the flank, including Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman, while Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies can play there as well.
Although it is possible that Bayern could make their move during the summer and Leeds may be tempted to a future sale when they look to follow Leicester City’s transfer model, a move in January to the Brazilian seems unlikely given his importance to Bielsa’s side.
